An international conference on restoring democracy in Burma has called for the immediate release of opposition leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
The conference, held in New Delhi, urged Burma's neighbors to put more pressure on the country's military rulers. It also urged the start of negotiations involvng all parties concerned for an early return to democracy in Burma.
Delegates from 14 countries took part in the conference, which was convened by India's former defense minister George Fernandes.
The convention comes a week before Burmese military leader Than Shwe is to make a state visit to India.
