The International Monetary Fund is warning that the ouster of Burma's prime minister could be a serious setback for the country's economy.
IMF External Affairs Director Thomas Dawson told reporters that Burma's economic potential appears to be undermined by chronic economic mismanagement, and General Khin Nyunt's ouster may make matters worse in the short-term.
Mr. Dawson says substantial reforms are needed to revive Burma's economy, especially in the country's banking sector.
