Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has ordered the country's Export-Import Bank to monitor future lending to Burma, following the ouster of Burmese Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt.
The bank says it will also closely monitor any change in Burma's economic policy. However, Mr. Thaksin says there are no plans to review any existing loans to Rangoon.
In August, Thailand's Export-Import Bank approved a multi-million dollar loan to Burma to overhaul Rangoon's telecom sector. Critics say Mr. Thaksin's family telecom company will benefit from the package by supplying Burma's future telecom projects.
