The U.S. State Department has called on India to discuss international concerns over Burma's human-rights record with Burmese military leader General Than Shwe.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said Washington hopes India had a chance to discuss such international concerns during General Than Shwe's six-day visit to the country, which ends Friday.
Mr. Boucher said those concerns include Burma's failure to release political prisoners, such as democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Earlier, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell criticized India for hosting General Than Shwe's visit, saying the trip only serves Burma's military government and not the country's people.
