A top Burmese official says the military-run government will not change its policy toward armed groups that have signed peace deals.
Secretary-1 Lieutenant General Thein Sein said Saturday the government would continue to work together with the ethnic groups to consolidate the nation and perpetuate the Union.
At a meeting with U Za Khun Ting Ring, the race leader of special region-1 of Kachin State, the general said the government would pursue the seven-point Road Map of ex-prime minister Khin Nyunt until it was completed.
U Za Khun Ting Ring pledged loyalty to the government, saying his party, the New Democratic Army of Kachin, would continue to attend the national convention that is hammering out a new constitution.
