Palestinian Officials Leave For Paris To Visit Arafat - 2004-11-08

Top Palestinian officials are headed to Paris to consult with doctors caring for Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat.

The three-man delegation -- Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, his predecessor Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian foreign minister, Nabil Sha'ath -- has left Ramallah for Jordan, from where they will fly to Paris.

Earlier, their trip was postponed after Mr. Arafat's wife Suha denounced them on Arabic television as plotters scheming to take over her husband's role as Palestinian leader.

Mr. Arafat went to the Paris hospital more than a week ago after his health worsened. There has been widespread speculation surrounding his condition, but no official diagnosis. French authorities have said his condition is very serious and complex, but stable.
