The Annual meeting of Nobel Peace Laureates was held in Rome, November 12. More than 20 Nobel Laureates called for the unconditional release of Burmese Democracy Leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. They made this demand at the annual meeting and will send a letter to the Chairman of Burmese Military junta Senior General Than Shwe.
1976 Nobel Laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire said, "They express deep concern at once more being deprived of the presence and wisdom of our colleague Aung San Suu Kyi. They said that Suu Kyi is a mistress for non-violence and democracy and should not be silenced. They said this is the loss for the whole world."
Former Soviet Union Leader Mikhail Gorbachev, former South Korean President Kim Dae Jung, former Polish President Lech Valesa, East Timor Foreign Minister Ramos Horta and Mairead Corrigan Maguire called upon the Burmese regime to restore civil, political and human rights and release of the symbol of democracy and freedom Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners. UNICEF, MSF, Amnesty International, UNHCR and ILO also join the fellow Nobel Laureates to make this demand.
