Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra says Burma's government chief has said he will not keep democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest forever.
Mr. Thaksin told reporters Thursday that General Than Shwe refused to give a date for her release and added there have been difficulties when she has been released in the past. Mr. Thaksin added he was told Burma needs to arrange some things before releasing her -- but did not elaborate.
He said Than Shwe told him Burma is committed to democratic reform and plans to re-start its work on a new constitution next year. He said he told the general about international concern that the reforms are not moving fast enough.
