Iraq's interim prime minister says war crimes trials against top officials of Saddam Hussein's ousted regime will start next week.
But Ilyad Allawi did not specify which officials will first appear in court. Iraqi authorities have said Saddam would face trial after the country's January 30th election.
U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher says the United States expects the process to be open. He says it believes that suspects will likely appear before investigative judges next week.
Meanwhile, a suicide car bomber killed two people at the same entrance to Baghdad's heavily guarded Green Zone where a similar attack killed nine people Monday.
South of the capital, insurgents killed two policemen in an ambush on their convoy.
