A Thai university will award an honorary doctorate to Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Bangkok's Rangsit University says it is awarding the Nobel laureate the degree to recognize her continuing efforts in promoting democracy and human rights, as well as seeking a peaceful and lasting political future in Burma.
Aung San Suu Kyi will not be able to attend Sunday's ceremony, as she remains under house arrest.
The Nobel laureate has not been seen in public since May 2003, when she was detained following a clash between her supporters and a pro-government mob in northern Burma. Her supporters say Burma's military government recently extended her house arrest by another year.
