Asian stock markets closed mostly higher today (Friday) with the key market in Tokyo rising to an eight-month high.
Tokyo's Nikkei index rose a fraction of one percent (17 points), to close at 11,873. The Nikkei rose slightly Thursday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, lost 1.2% (162 points), to finish at 13,731. The Hang Seng slipped Thursday.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Manila, Seoul, Sydney, Wellington, Jakarta, Singapore and Bombay. Markets closed lower in Taipei and Shanghai.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 105.43 yen in Tokyo, up 0.30 yen from late Thursday in Tokyo, and above its late Thursday New York level of 105.23 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong fell three dollars and 40 cents to close at 429 dollars and 45 cents an ounce.
