Burmese Prime Minister Soe Win has met with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing today-Wednesday, on the second day of his visit to one of Burma's few remaining allies.
Since his arrival in China on Tuesday, the Burmese leader also has held talks with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The official Xinhua news agency says Premier Wen told Mr. Soe Win that great attention should be given to the drug problem along the China-Burma border.
The two leaders signed eight agreements, including deals on technology cooperation and plans to build an electric power plant.
Despite concern about the human-rights record of the military leadership in Rangoon, China has continued to support Burma and welcomes increased trade ties. However, Beijing is under increasing pressure to hold Burma accountable for its rights record.
