The civilian-led government of Myanmar has appealed for urgent international assistance to help aid victims of the country's recent flooding.

Weeks of heavy rains caused flash floods and landslides that have left 46 people dead and affected more than 200-thousand others in northern and western Myanmar.

The flooding has damaged roads and bridges while telephone service and electricity has been wiped out in parts of the country.

Myanmar has designated four states and regions, Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing and Magway, as "natural disaster" areas and warned that flooding is spreading to more populous areas farther south.
