07 Mar 05: Asian Markets Close Mostly Higher

Asian stock markets closed mostly higher today (Monday).

The Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei Average rose 52 points to finish at 11,925 points. On Friday, the average gained 16 points.

Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, gained 41 points to finish at 13,772. The Hang Seng lost 162 points Friday.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Manila, Sydney, Wellington, Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei Shanghai and Bombay. Markets closed lower in Seoul.

At late afternoon in Tokyo, the dollar was trading at 104.89 yen, down 0.54 yen from Friday afternoon but above its late Friday New York level of 104.75 yen.

In Hong Kong, the price of gold rose five dollars and 30 cents to close at 434 dollars and 75 cents an ounce.
