Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 52 points to finish at 11,873.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 16 points to end at 13,833.
The price of gold in London is 441 dollars, 20 cents an ounce, up one dollar 10 cents from late Tuesday.
The dollar in London is lower against other major currencies.
