Exit Polls: Blair Wins Third Term

Exit polls from Britain's general election have given Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Labor Party a third straight term, but with a considerably smaller majority in Parliament.

The polls, conducted for British television networks, give Labor 37% of the vote, with 33% for the main opposition Conservatives and 22% for the Liberal Democrats.

The polls say Labor's 161 seat majority in Parliament will drop to a slim 66 seats. The Conservatives are expected to gain 44 seats, with the Liberal Democrats picking up two seats.

Vote counting will go on all night and final official results are expected later Friday. Prime Minister Blair campaigned on what he said was a strong economy.

But Conservative leader Michael Howard accused Mr. Blair of lying to the country to convince parliament to vote for the Iraq war.
