Blair Vows Terrorism Will Be Defeated

British Prime Minister Tony Blair says the apparent terrorist attacks in London were timed to coincide with the Group of Eight summit in Scotland.

Mr. Blair says the attacks that rocked London's transport system are particularly barbaric since they came when world leaders are trying to focus on combating poverty in Africa and the effects of climate change.

The prime minister said he will rush back to London to assess the situation, but the summit meeting will continue. And he vows that terrorism will be defeated.

"It is important that those engaged in terrorism realize that our determination to defend our values and our way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people in a desire to impose extremism on the world."

Mr. Blair said his sentiments are shared by the other G-8 leaders.
