Burma, India, Bangladesh to Discuss Pipeline

Officials from Burma, India, and Bangladesh are expected to meet in Rangoon later this month to discuss cooperation among thethree nations on a natural gas pipeline.

News reports Tuesday said the three nations will send energy officials to the meeting, which aims to work out conflicts among the three nations, particularly with Bangladesh, which has demanded the reduction of a trade imbalance with India in exchange for routing the pipeline across its land. Bangladesh has also asked for a trade corridor between Bangladesh and Nepal.

The one-billion-dollar pipeline is expected to carry natural gas from a Burmese gas field through Bangladesh and into India.
