Cartoonist Chit Swe, a member of Burma's pro-democracy opposition, has been released from a Rangoon jail after serving a one-month sentence.
Reporters Without Borders and Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy said Friday that the 65-year-old democracy activist was released from Rangoon's Insein prison this week.
Chit Swe was arrested on July 12th shortly after holding an NLD meeting at his home. He was tried and convicted of "defying the orders of the authorities" under a law often used against government opponents.
Reporters Without Borders says he has denied any wrongdoing, saying the meeting was just a discussion among colleagues.
Chit Swe's cartoons appear in economic publications such as Myanmar Dana and often mock socio-economic problems in Burma.
