Indian lawmakers say they have created the country's first-ever government group to discuss ways to bring democracy to Burma.
The leader of the newly-formed Indian Parliamentarians' Forum for Democracy Nirmala Deshpandey said the group is comprised of 12 lawmakers -- coming from both ruling and opposition parties in both houses of Parliament.
The Indian spokeswoman said the forum will champion human rights in Burma and seek the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said recently that he had conveyed New Delhi's desire to Burma that Aung San Suu Kyi should be freed immediately.
