Burmese officials say they seized 12 million amphetamine stimulant tablets last month - almost four times the total confiscated for all of last year.
The state-run "New Light of Myanmar" newspaper says authorities investigated 203 drug cases in January, with 68 involving stimulant tablets and and 79 involving heroin.
The newspaper reports that police and customs department officers last month seized 26 kilograms of opium, 32 kilograms of heroin and a ton of morphine.
Burma's government reported last month that it seized a little more than 3.5 million amphetamine tablets last year. Amphetamine is a synthetic stimulant.
