Bombings in Iraq Kill at Least 17

At least 17 Iraqis and a U.S. soldier were killed Monday in bombing attacks across Iraq.

A suicide bomber killed 12 people by detonating his explosives on a bus in central Baghdad.

To the south, a roadside bomb killed an American soldier near Karbala. In Mosul, five Iraqis were killed and dozens wounded when a bomb exploded inside a restaurant. An Iraqi police officer was among those who died.

Also Monday, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw arrived in Baghdad for talks with Iraqi officials on the formation of a new Iraqi government, which major political factions have failed to agree on.

The U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, warned Iraqi leaders the U.S. will not tolerate sectarianism or militia in Iraq's government or security forces.
