Malaysia Offers Visas-on-Arrival to 23 Countries

Malaysia is offering visas-on-arrival to citizens of 23 countries in an effort to boost tourism.

Visitors from China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Burma are among those eligible for the visas.

Malaysia's New Straits Times quotes Home Minister Radzi Sheikh Ahmad as saying the visas will allow tourists to stay in the country for up to one month.

Malaysia's home ministry says the visas will be available for 27 US dollars throughout next year if no problems are experienced.

Tourism is the country's second-largest foreign-exchange-earning sector.

The government says it hopes to attract 20 million tourists in 2007. Malaysia's tourism sector has been facing competition from its neighbors including Singapore and Thailand.
