Burma Urges Citizens to Report Cases of Malpractice, Corruption

Burma's state-run newspaper says the government is urging people to report all possible cases of malpractice among workers in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The New Light of Myanmar said today that if any worker of the ministry commits malpractice involving money, property and even harassment of people, they will be thoroughly investigated.

The Home Affairs Ministry is responsible for security services, police, prisons and welfare. The article included the telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of officials in the ministry for citizens to call.

Burma's military junta has ruled the country with an iron-fist since the 1960's. They are repeatedly criticized by human rights groups and countries, including the United States, for stifling freedom of expression and other human rights abuses.
