Aid Group says Britain Fails to Help Burmese

A newly released report from Burma Campaign UK criticizes the British government's aid effort in the military-ruled country and calls for re-thinking its strategy.

The report "Failing the People of Burma" calls the Burmese aid program of the British government's Department for International Development "woefully under-funded."

Burma Campaign UK notes that while the development department spends 97 million dollars on Vietnam each year, it spends slightly less than 17 million a year on Burma.

The report by the group devoted to restoring human rights and democracy in Burma says Britain's development department does not do enough to help those within Burma who have been displaced or are vulnerable.

It also says that it is "astonishing" that the British aid department does not provide support for any projects that promote democracy in Burma.
