India Urges Burma to Evict anti-Indian Rebels

India has urged Burma to crack down on anti-Indian rebel groups operating from its territory.

Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee made the appeal Sunday in Yangon at the end of his three day visit to Burma that included talks with high-ranking officials.

An Indian Foreign Ministry statement says New Delhi welcomes Burma's commitment not to allow hostile activities against India, but expects Yangon's continued and sustained cooperation.

The statement also stressed the need for an early conclusion of a bilateral investment promotion treaty and an agreement on avoidance of double taxation.

The two sides called for boosting bilateral ties and closer economic and energy cooperation, and signed several agreements.
