Burmese Oil And Gas Tops List of Country's Exports

Burmese media report that the state-run Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprises accounted for more than 40% of the country's exports for the fiscal year ending in March.

The Myanmar Times, which quotes figures released by the Customs Department, reports today that Myanmar Oil and Gas topped the export earnings with more than two billion dollars in gas sales to Thailand.

An Energy Ministry official was quoted by the newspaper as saying the amount of natural gas exported was the same, but that prices were higher.

Other top exporters include the state-owned Timber Enterprise with 519 million dollars in exports followed by the Gems Enterprise, which brought in 297 million dollars, mostly from the sale of jade.

The newspaper reports that overall Burma achieved a record seven-point-nine billion dollars in trade, up 43 percent on the previous year.
