The UN secretary-general's special adviser on Burma, Ibrahim Gambari, is scheduled to meet with India's foreign secretary as part of wider regional discussions on Burma.
Gambari will meet with Shivshankar Menon on Thursday in New Delhi as part of UN efforts to promote positive change in Burma through direct dialogue with interested countries.
India and Burma have close military ties. In May, India's naval chief traveled to Burma to meet with top leaders of the military-ruled government. India also has supplied Burma with naval surveillance aircraft and gunboats.
Rights groups have criticized India's continued investment in Burma, saying it supports a government accused of human rights violations.
Gambari arrived in New Delhi from Beijing where he met with China's leaders to discuss Burma's political situation.
After that visit, a Chinese government spokesman said Burma's government does not pose a threat to regional security, and that Burmese people should resolve their own issues.
Gambari is scheduled to travel next to Japan for further meetings.
