Burma re-opened its border with Thailand after a five-month shutdown over a dispute involving ethnic minority rebels along the frontier.
Burmese officials removed barricades from a bridge at the northwestern Thai town of Mae Sot at dawn on Tuesday.
Burma closed its border with Thailand in May following a border clash involving soldiers from both sides. Rangoon accused the Thai army of supporting ethnic Shan rebels fighting the Burmese government. Thailand said it was only firing warning shots when fighting across the border spilled over into Thai territory.
Rangoon and Bangkok agreed to reopen the border during high-level talks last week. The closings dealt a severe blow to Burma's economy and hurt trade in Thai border towns.
