Hundreds of Burmese villagers have fled into neighboring Thailand following clashes between Burmese troops and ethnic Karen rebels on the Burma-Thailand border.
Witnesses and Thai officials say hundreds of Burmese soldiers and about 100 members of the Karen National Union clashed for several hours near a rebel base across the border from the Thai village of Ya Phaw.
At least 400 Burmese villagers were said to have fled into Thailand to escape the fighting, while Thai villagers were moved farther away from the border.
The Karen rebels have been fighting for autonomy from Burma's government for decades.
