CNN Interviews U.S. Marine Edward Chin In Baghdad - 2003-04-11

On Thursday, CNN interviewed a 23-year old Corporal Edward Chin of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Edward Chin’s parents migrated to the U.S. from Burma in 1980.

Corporal Chin talked about how the Iraqi crowd and the marines cheered him on when he climbed up a huge statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad and draped an American flag on its face.

He said this act was, in his words, “more like a symbol that we were here to free these people.” As for the jubilant Iraqi crowd when the statue of Saddam Hussein was finally pulled down, Corporal Chin said: “They were very happy, exuberant almost like a crowd at Times Square in the New Year’s (festivities).
