Laos And Burma Agree to Strengthen Cooperation - 2003-05-06

Officials from Laos and Burma have agreed to strengthen cooperation in several areas, including drug control, agriculture and trade.

The official Lao news agency, KPL, Tuesday said the delegates reached the agreement at a two-day meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission in the capital, Vientiane. It said the delegates also pledged to continue working together through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in setting national boundaries.

Both countries have agreed to meet again in October to adopt a memorandum on boundary cooperation.

Burma's military leader, Senior General Than Shwe, is on a state visit to Laos through Wednesday.
