Burma's official media say Prime Minister Khin Nyunt will attend a regional summit in Tokyo this week.
Japan is hosting a summit of Southeast Asian nations on Thursday and Friday. Burmese media say Khin Nyunt will attend despite a deterioration in ties between Tokyo and Rangoon.
In October, at a summit in Bali of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi chided Khin Nyunt about Burma's continuing detention of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Japan froze new aid to Burma after Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi was taken into custody last May.
