Death Toll in Kabul Blast Rising - 2004-08-30

At least 10 people are dead after Sunday's bombing in central Kabul, and a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan says the death toll may rise.

Afghan and U.S. military officials have confirmed the nationality of nine victims -- three Americans, three Nepalese and three Afghans.

Reports indicate another twenty people were wounded when the car bomb exploded late Sunday outside the offices of a private American security firm, DynCorp. The company provides bodyguards for Afghan President Hamid Karzai and is helping to train the national police.

Taleban militants are claiming responsibility for the attack and warn more will follow.

U.S. and Afghan officials are jointly investigating the bombing, while the U.S. Embassy is advising Americans in Kabul to keep a low profile.
