Palestinian Officials: Arafat Has No 'Dangerous' Disease - 2004-10-31

Palestinian officials say there is no sign Yasser Arafat has leukemia or other life-threatening diseases, but more tests will be conducted to determine the cause of the Palestinian leader's illness.

The officials who accompanied Mr. Arafat to France Friday for medical tests said today (Sunday) the results of more tests can be expected by Wednesday, but so far, there are no signs of any dangerous diseases.

In Mr. Arafat's absence in the Palestinian territories, Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia is running the daily affairs of the Palestinian Authority, and former Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas is running the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The two symbolically left Mr. Arafat's chair empty today when they met with other Palestinian officials.
