Asian stock markets closed mixed Friday, with the key market in Tokyo slipping slightly.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost a fraction of 1% (29 points), to close at 11,360.
The Nikkei dipped slightly Thursday. Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, rose 0.5% (70 points), to finish at 13,585. The Hang Seng slipped slightly Thursday.
Elsewhere, share prices closed slightly higher in Bangkok, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Wellington. Markets dipped in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Bombay.
Markets in Taipei were closed ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday and will reopen on February 14.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 104.50 yen in Tokyo, up 0.36 yen from late Thursday in Tokyo, and above its late Thursday New York level of 104.45 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong fell four dollars and 30 cents to close at 416 dollars and 35 cents an ounce.
