Asian stock markets closed mostly lower Wednesday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 33 points to finish at 11,814. The average gained 40 points on Tuesday.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 1.5 percent (210 points) to end at 13,851. The Hang Seng lost 1% (134 points) on Tuesday.
In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index rose 20 points to close at 2,144.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bombay, Sydney and Wellington. Markets were lower in Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai and Taipei.
In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 104.61 yen, down .03 yen from the same time Tuesday.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold fell four dollars, 40 cents to close at 430 dollars, five cents an ounce.
