U.S. stock market indexes were mixed as trading opened Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 19 points at 10,645.
The S & P 500 was up one point at 1191, while the NASDAQ lost two points to reach 2015. European share prices are higher in midday trading.
London's Financial Times index, the CAC-40 in Paris, and the DAX index in Frankfurt all moved up three-tenths of a percent or more.
Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index rose 104 points to close at 11,880, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 10 points to finish at 13,828.
The price of gold is down nearly two dollars, trading at 437 dollars and six cents an ounce in New York.
The dollar is higher against the yen and the euro.
