Most Asian stock markets closed higher Friday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index rose nearly 1% (104 points), to close at 11,880. The Nikkei fell nearly one percent on Thursday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, rose a fraction of 1% (10 points), to finish at 13,828. The Hang Seng slipped slightly Thursday.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington.
Prices dropped in Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul and Shanghai.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 104.82 yen in Tokyo, up 0.65 yen from late Thursday in Tokyo, and above its late Thursday New York level of 104.53 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong fell six dollars and 50 cents to close at 436 dollars and 95 cents an ounce.
