Britain has called on Burma to immediatley release 10 ethnic Shan politicians who have been charged with sedition.
In a press release Friday from the British embassy in Rangoon, Foreign Office Minister Douglas Alexander said he was very concerned about the politicians, including Sai Htin and Khun Tun Oo, who were arrested in early February.
Mr. Alexander called the sedition charges unjustified and said they appear to be aimed at preventing the politicians from participating in Burma's National Convention.
Burma's ruling junta is holding a National Convention to draft a new constitution. Western nations consider the convention illegitimate because it does not include the participation of Burma's pro-democracy parties.
