Asian stock markets closed lower Tuesday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost more than 1% (192 points) to finish at 11,600. The average gained 51 points Monday.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost more than 1% (185 points) to end at 13,412. The Hang Sang lost a fraction of a percent on Thursday. Hong Kong's financial markets were closed Friday and Monday for the Easter holiday.
In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times Index fell 17 points to close at 2,128.
Markets were also lower in Bangkok, Bombay, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington.
In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 107.16 yen, up 0.22 yen from the same time Thursday.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold rose one dollar and 10 cents, to close at 427 dollars and 35 cents an ounce.
