European share prices are lower in midday trading Tuesday.

The S&P futures contract is down more than four points, indicating a lower opening for U.S. stocks.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost more than 1% (192 points) to finish at 11,600.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost more than 1% (185 points) to end at 13,412.
The price of gold in London is 426 dollars, 95 cents an ounce, up two dollars, 45 cents from last Friday.
Markets were closed Monday for a public holiday. The dollar in London is mixed against other major currencies.
