European share prices are lower in midday trading Tuesday.
London's Financial Times index is down 26 points at 4,897. The CAC-40 in Paris is 28 points lower at 4,051, and the DAX index in Frankfurt is down 28 points at 4,315.
The S&P futures contract is down more than four points, indicating a lower opening for U.S. stocks.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost more than 1% (192 points) to finish at 11,600.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost more than 1% (185 points) to end at 13,412.
The price of gold in London is 426 dollars, 95 cents an ounce, up two dollars, 45 cents from last Friday.
Markets were closed Monday for a public holiday. The dollar in London is mixed against other major currencies.
