Asian stock markets closed mixed Monday, with the key market in Tokyo falling on profit taking.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost a fraction of 1% (56 points), to close at 11,668. The Nikkei rose slightly on Friday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, ended slightly higher (22 points), to finish at 13,513.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Jakarta, Manila, Singapore and Wellington. Stocks closed lower in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Sydney and Taipei.
Markets in Seoul and Bombay closed flat. The U.S. dollar was quoted at 107.74 yen in Tokyo, up 0.47 yen from late Friday in Tokyo, and above its late Friday New York level of 107.61 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong fell $ 2.20 to close at 425 dollars, 75 cents an ounce.
