Asian stock markets closed mixed Tuesday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index gained nearly 1% (107 points) to finish at 11,774. The average lost half a percent (56 points) on Monday.
In Singapore, the Straits Times index ended virtually unchanged at 2,158. Markets in Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei were closed for a holiday.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Wellington. Markets were lower in Bangkok, Bombay, Jakarta, Manila and Shanghai. I
n late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 108.85 yen, up 0.95 yen from the same time Monday.
