Asian stock markets closed with solid gains Thursday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index was up sharply, gaining two and a quarter percent (242 points) to finish at 11,077. The average gained a fraction of a percent on Wednesday.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index closed up one-half percent (72 points) to finish at 13,699, after losing a fraction of a percent Wednesday.
Share prices were also higher in Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai, Sydney, Taipei, Wellington and Bombay.
In Tokyo, the dollar was at 107.12 yen, down 0.37 yen from the same time Wednesday.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold rose $2.10 cents to close at $421.95 cents an ounce.
