The commander-in-chief of Thailand's army has met with Burma's senior ruling general, Than Shwe, as part of a three-day visit to the neighboring country.
Burmese state media report that Thai General Sonthi Boonyaratkalin met Monday with General Than Shwe, who holds the title of chairman of the State Peace and Development Council.
No details of the meeting were released but the two had been expected to discuss military cooperation. Thai officials said the two sides would also discuss narcotics problems in the border region.
Thailand has blamed armed ethnic groups in Burma for the problems. The trip is General Sonthi's first official visit to Burma since becoming Thailand's army chief.
