The UN secretary-general's special advisor on Burma has begun a tour of Europe that will take him to several European capitals.
A UN spokeswoman Marie Okabe says Ibrahim Gambari arrived in Moscow on Monday where he was scheduled to meet with senior government officials. He is scheduled to hold additional meetings this week with officials in Paris, Brussels and London.
Gambari's trip to Europe follows his recent tour of Asia, where he met with officials in China, India and Japan to discuss human rights conditions in military-ruled Burma.
Gambari was chosen in May by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to support efforts by the UN to restore democracy to Burma and protect human rights in the country.
