The United States says it is considering more sanctions against Burma unless the country's military government enacts reforms.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Lorne Craner told a group of exiled Burmese politicians Monday in Washington that the military government has not made a serious effort at dialogue with the pro-democracy opposition.
Mr. Craner also accused the Burmese military government of blatant violations of human rights and democracy.
He added that the United States could not confirm the release of more than 100 political prisoners whom Burma had promised to free.
