U.S. forces launched airstrikes against insurgent positions in the Iraqi city of Fallujah and Baghdad's Sadr City late Monday.
Witnesses say U.S. warplanes fired missiles into northern Fallujah in the latest in a series of strikes aimed at fighters loyal to wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
At the same time, U.S. forces launched another assault on insurgents in Sadr City. Earlier Monday, strikes killed at least four people in the neighborhood -- a stronghold of supporters of radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
In other violence Monday, a car bomb in Mosul killed three Iraqi National Guardsmen. And four Iraqi civilians were killed in a roadside bomb north of Baghdad in Baquba.
