The head of Burma's military government, General Than Shwe, will travel to India later this month for talks.
Indian officials say General Than Shwe will arrive October 24 for five days of talks. It will be the first visit to India by a Burmese head of state in 25 years.
Details of the visit have not been released.
Meanwhile, an Indian government delegation is in Rangoon for talks with Burmese government officials.
Relations between the two countries soured after 1988, when Burma's military government accused India of giving refuge to Burmese dissidents.
